Stadler’s Jewelry was started in 1958 by German immigrants, Irmgard and Richard Stadler who immigrated into the United States of America in 1956 with their three children Nick, Richard and Ingeborg.
Word of mouth slowly spread about the small jewelry and watch repair shop. For the next 10 years, Richard worked in the factory and then came home in the evening to eat dinner and do jewelry work throughout the night.
Slowly the family business started to become a viable business that could support itself, but not without many set backs. The business experienced robberies that devastated the family. Broken windows and doors from thieves and armed robbers made having a jewelry business in Cleveland extremely dangerous. After a robbery that left Irmgard injured and the family dog shot, Stadler’s Jewelry moved to Rocky River in 1968 and purchased the current building in 1980.
It had always been the couple’s vision to own a truly unique jewelry store, so annual purchasing trips across continents began. Making extremely important contacts with exclusive designers from international jewelry shows helped bring outstanding designs to Stadler’s Jewelry. As a Part of their annual buying trips, the Stadler’s visited Basel, Switzerland and Antwerp, Belgium. Diamonds were selected directly from the manufactures, cutters and polishers allowing the couple to purchase factory direct.
Nick and his brother Henry have followed in their parents’ footsteps and continue to run the jewelry business. Nick continues the European trips to purchase diamonds, gemstones and watch specialist just as his parents did. Henry stays in the U.S. and purchases from designers and manufacturers. Henry’s travels take him to a jewelry show each year in Las Vegas, where he selects designer engagement rings that are handmade in New York, Los Angeles and throughout the country. The family continues to uphold their legacy by offering the largest selection of Sylvie Jewelry engagement rings and wedding bands in Rocky River.
